Big Bend Retreat or Crossroads Hospice

Helen Elizabeth Adams of Slater, Missouri, formerly of Raytown, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Big Bend Retreat in Slater. Helen was born in Chariton County, north of Glasgow, on April 1, 1922 to Thomas and Louetta (Ball) Adams. She attended elementary school at Nordmeyer country school and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1939. During World War II Helen worked as an ammunition inspector at Lake City, Missouri Arsenal. Later she was an office manager for Reo Motors Inc. for 10 years. Helen then worked for the Air Traffic Division of the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring after 26 years. After retirement, she sold real estate for ReeseNichols Realtors and worked at Sarah Coventry jewelry. She also volunteered at Children's Mercy Hospital and local schools. Helen was a longtime member and past president of the Kansas City Council of Beta Sigma Phi. The Central United Methodist Church in Kansas City held her membership for 50 years. Helen was also a member of the Criterion Sunday school class. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews: Roberta Knight and Glenetta Burks of Slater, Missouri, Mary Etta Gibbs of Moberly, Missouri, Charles (Brenda) Adams of Albemarle, North Carolina, Roy Adams of Mexico, Missouri, Harold (Marilyn) Adams and Donald (Cheryl) Adams of Glasgow, Missouri. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Norma Ruth Cowgur of Lincoln, Illinois and Dr. Ruby Adams of Raytown, Missouri and two brothers, Roy H. Adams and Orville L. Adams of Glasgow, Missouri. A Funeral Service for Helen will be 2 PM, Friday, April 28, 2017 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, with Rev. David Duncan officiating. Visitation will be held an hour before the service from 1-2 PM. Burial will follow the funeral at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Big Bend Retreat or Crossroads Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
