Well known Fayette resident Robert Lang passed away July 31, 2014 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO. He was 85 years of age. Robert Henry Lang was born on October 5, 1928 in Boonville, MO to Henry and Martha (Bonen) Lang. He grew up in Boonville, graduating from St. Peter & Paul High School. Enlisting in the U.S. Naval Reserve during high school, he was later called to active duty during the Korean War. Gifted with an aptitude for and interest in technology, Mr. Lang attended several education institutions to advance his knowledge of aviation electronics after completing his military service. He earned a degree specializing in electronics from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL, attended University of Missouri for two years, and studied at Central Technical Institute in Kansas City. On November 7, 1960, Robert Lang married Alpha Weesen at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Boonville. Together they enjoyed nearly 55 years of marriage. Mr. Lang was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Over the course of his career, his technological expertise, dedication, and hard work earned him numerous advancements and awards in the field of aviation electronics. In retirement he enjoyed his hobby as a Ham Radio Operator and was active in the service of his community. He was instrumental in starting the 911 dispatch service in Howard County in 1995 and was Energy Management Director of Howard County for a number of years. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 273 and also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Lang is survived by his wife, Alpha, of the home; sister Dorothy (Jim) Bock of Laurie, MO; sister and brother-in-law Wanda (Cary) Lang of New Franklin, MO; 10 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert H. Lang will be held at 11am,on Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fayette with Fr. Robert Duesdieker officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at New Franklin with Tim Bock, Matt Young, John Bock, Jason Lang, Adam Lixey, and Tyler Young serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Kunze, Dale Johnson, Clifford Innes, John King, Bill Lang, and Dale Monteer. Visitation is 6-7:30pm with a Prayer Service starting at 7:30pm Sunday evening, August 3, 2014 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Chapel.
