Glasgow resident, Melvin Symes, 80, passed away at his home on March 3, 2022. Melvin Lee Symes was born November 12, 1941, in Keytesville, MO, a son to the late Willard and Emma (Littleton) Symes. He graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1959. Melvin enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in March of 1964. Throughout his career, Melvin worked in the telephone industry as a splicer and later, an inspector. He owned his own construction company and worked for Finley Engineering and Southwestern Bell. Melvin Retired in 2015. Melvin enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking when he was able. Survivors include his three children, Darrell Symes of Fayette, MO, Duane (Sharon) Symes of Battle Ground, WA and Alison (Rob) Parish of Bellevue, WA; seven grandchildren; and three siblings, Wanda Neville of Glasgow, MO, Martha (Bill) Skinner of Fayette, MO and Fred Symes of Raymore, MO. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Symes, brother-in-law, Larry Neville and a sister-in-law, Linda Symes. A graveside service with military honors will be 11 AM, Monday, March 7, 2022, at Asbury Cemetery in rural Keytesville, MO. Rev. Harold Young will be officiating. A visitation will be held before the service on March 7 from 10-10:30 AM at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow.
