Johnny “Doc” Lawson, 73, passed away suddenly at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia on March 30, 2022. John David Lawson, known to many as Johnny or Doc, was born January 26, 1949 in Boonville, MO, a son to the late Harmon and Lila (Copeland) Lawson. Doc graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1967. He attended Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville. In his younger years, Doc played the keys in several bands. He got the opportunity to open for several national acts. He was also served in the Navy as a medical corpsman, and sung in the Blue Jacket Choir. On August 10, 1983, Doc married Ivaleen “Punky” Dusenburg in Fayette, MO. They enjoyed over 36 years together until Punky’s passing on October 14, 2019. Doc had a strong work ethic and stayed busy throughout his career. He was the school nurse for Fayette High School for over 20 years. Even after he retired, he continued working as a nurse for the New Franklin school district and held a job with the Department of Corrections. He refereed basketball games for 20 years and was a MSHSAA track and field official for 35 years. He was also the owner of Vintage Painting, refinishing historical homes for 35 years. Doc loved listening to music, playing the keys, fishing, and traveling. Survivors include his three children, Nikki (Gordon) Medlin of Keytesville, MO, Trisha (Kenny) Clark of Glasgow, MO and David (LeeAnn) Lawson of Glasgow, MO; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Teresa Fine of Oologah, OK and Gail (Ken) Brink of Perryville, MO and 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Doc was also survived by special friends, Don and Heather Arnold of Franklin, MO, and Jim Bob Patman of Oologah, OK. In addition to his wife and parents, Doc was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Abernathy. A celebration of life gathering will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. Richard Fine officiating. Visitation will take place an hour before, starting at 10 AM, at the funeral home.
