Obituary

 

Glasgow resident, Dale Himmelberg, age 61, passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO following a recent battle with renal cell cancer.

Dale Joseph Himmelberg was born in Cooper Co., MO on January 4, 1962.  He was one of six children born to the late Clarence E. and Marcella A. (Grotewiel) Himmelberg.  He graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1980.  Dale continued his education earning a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  On May 10, 1986, Dale married the love of his life, Melanie Palmer, at St. Mary Church in Glasgow.  This past May, the couple celebrated 37 years of marriage.  

Dale worked his entire career (36 years) for the University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, the last years as a locksmith. In addition to his work at the hospital, Dale continued working on the family farm with crops, alfalfa hay and cattle (essentially two full time jobs!) He loved to tinker and fix things, got excited for new adventures, and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. He adored his grandkids!

Survivors include his wife of the home, Melanie Himmelberg; two daughters, Brittany (Dustin) Hart of Fayette, MO and Lauren Himmelberg of St. Charles, MO; three grandchildren, Kinsley, Carson and Cash Hart; three siblings, Delbert W. Himmelberg of Glasgow, MO, Diane (Adolph) Barringhaus of Armstrong, MO and Darlene Dougherty of Moberly, MO.  Dale is also survived by brother-in-law, Richard E. Palmer of Columbia, MO, along with numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.  In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by two brothers, David F. Himmelberg, Sr., and Donald A. Himmelberg.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, The Rosary and visitation will be held at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow MO. The Rosary begins at 4 PM with visitation following from 5-7 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Thursday, September 21, 2023, at St. Mary Church in Glasgow, with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.
