Glasgow resident, David Kallmeyer, age 73, passed away June 22, 2023 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
David Eugene Kallmeyer was born July 3, 1949 in Boonville, MO. He was one of two children born to Eugene A. “Gene” and Lavena (Thornton) Kallmeyer. David graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1967. He furthered his education pursuing a degree in music from Northeast Missouri State, until a degenerative eye disease rendered him unable. David transferred to Central Methodist College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science. On August 28, 1971, David was united in marriage to Elouise Anderson at St. Mary Church in Glasgow. Together, they’ve enjoyed over 51 years of marriage. David spent his working career in the restaurant industry. He was owner/operator of two local Glasgow eateries, Klag’s Drive-In and Diamond Jim’s. When his eye disease rendered him unable to work outside the home, David proudly served as "Mr. Mom" to his four children. He will be remembered for his love and passion for music. David's self-proclaimed title "World's Okay-est Drummer" began when he joined the Minny Phyve band in 1965 alongside friends from Salisbury and Glasgow. He played with other local bands for over 50 years, spending the most time with Bob's Garage Band. David was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers fan. When he was able, David enjoyed golfing and cooking. He was also an active member of the Glasgow Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Elouise Kallmeyer; four children, Amy Kallmeyer Ewing of Columbia, MO, Joe (Kelly) Kallmeyer, Andy (Lindsay) Kallmeyer, and Emily (Andy) Bentley, all of Glasgow; his mother, Lavena Kallmeyer of Glasgow; sister, Theresa (Doug) Walker of Glasgow; six grandchildren, Leo, Ben, Eva, Hudson, Silas and Lennox. He is also survived by three nieces, Elizabeth, Melanie and Amanda, and one nephew, Weston. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Eugene “Gene” Kallmeyer.
Visitation will be 4-6 PM, Monday, June 26, 2023 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. A celebration of life will be held following the visitation from 6-8 PM, next door to the funeral home, at Friemonth’s Landing. Those in attendance for the services are encouraged to dress casually and wear their favorite Cardinals and Tigers hats and shirts in honor of David.
