Fayette resident, David Overstreet, age 77, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at The Bluffs in Columbia, MO.

David Lee Overstreet was born January 7, 1949 in Fayette, MO.  He was one of five children born to the late Ruben and Ann (Watson) Overstreet.  David graduated from Highlands High School in San Antonio, TX with the class of 1966.  In December of 1967, David was drafted by the U.S. Army to serve his country.  David served valiantly during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged September of 1969.  Throughout his life, David remained very proud of his military service, and cared deeply for his fellow veterans.

On May 18, 1990, David married Kathryn “Kitty” Schumm in Moberly, MO.  The couple have enjoyed over 35 years together.  David spent his career in energy management as an electrician.  He worked for multiple companies in Texas, where he started.  Eventually he ended up working for the University of Missouri and retired after 26 years of work.  David was a devout member of Sharon Bible Church of Armstrong, MO and enjoyed time volunteering at the Fayette Food Pantry.  He served as past president of the Fayette Senior Center Board, and was a volunteer mentor for the Veterans Treatment Court.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, of the home; two sons, Lance Overstreet of San Antonio, TX and Keith (Liz) Overstreet of Ashland, MO; three stepchildren, Brian (Loretta) Thompson of New London, IA, Chuck Thompson of Troy, MO and Jennifer (Brian) Gremmel of Columbia, MO; 12 grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, Adrianna, Michael Christina, Madison, Sylvia, Natalia, Hunter, Roben, Rhiannon, Ryan, Jordan, and Caleb; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy (Gary) Thompson of Dripping Springs, TX, Donna Gentry of San Antonio, TX and Mona (Doug) MacFarlane of Olathe, KS.  He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister Priscilla O’Neil, and a granddaughter, Rylie Wagner.

A memorial service honoring the life of Mr. Overstreet will be 11 AM, Friday, March 27, 2026 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. Harold Young officiating.  Visitation will be an hour before the service, starting at 10 AM.  Full Military Honors will follow the service at 1 PM, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
