Dr. Kathryn "Taffy" Wallace Obituary

Dr. Kathryn Wallace, affectionately known as “Taffy” to her friends and family, was born July 15, 1941 in Bastrop, TX, the daughter of A.W. and Claudia (Smiddy) Young.  She passed away at her home in Fayette August 28, 2025, at the age of 84.

Taffy graduated from Smithville High School in Texas, attended Abilene Christian College and graduated from University of Texas in Austin with a BA Degree in French.  Taffy then went on to earn a PhD in French from Vanderbilt University.  Taffy was a French Professor at the University of Missouri, Stephens College and later at Central Methodist University.  She taught at CMU from 1995 to 2004, when she retired.

She had married James K. Wallace December 22, 1965 in McLean, VA.  The couple enjoyed 59 years of marriage until James’ death on August 31, 2024.

Kathryn was a member of PEO in Fayette for a number of years.

She is survived by a brother, John Young; niece, Sydney Kornman; nephews, Lane Kornman, Andrew Young, Derek Young and John Kornman.  In addition to her husband and parents, Taffy was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Kornman.

At Kathryn’s request, there will be memorial service at St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Fayette, 2 PM, Sunday, October 19th, 2025.
