Gentry Colvin Obituary
Franklin, MO resident, Gentry Colvin, age 90, passed away peacefully at Glasgow Gardens on February 16, 2025, after a five-year battle with cancer.
Gentry Louis Colvin was born September 12, 1934 at the family home in rural Glasgow. He was one of four children born to the late Oren and Rebecca (Brown) Colvin. Gentry attended elementary school at Richland School south of Glasgow. After graduating from Glasgow High School in 1952, he enlisted with the U.S. Army until 1954 and continued serving in the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1961. In the meantime, Gentry married the love of his life, Dorothy Borges, at St. Mary’s Church in Glasgow on April 11, 1956. The couple have enjoyed over 68 years of marriage. One highlight of Gentry’s life was being able to travel on the Central Missouri Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in April of 2018.
Gentry was a lifelong farmer. He was deeply rooted in Howard County, MO farming traditions. You could always find him planting or harvesting with his John Deere equipment all the way up to his retirement and beyond. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and truck patching with his wife, Dorothy, by his side. He loved being outdoors and had a passion for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards with family and friends. You could always sit down with a cup of coffee and listen to Gentry tell stories for hours on end.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Dorothy Colvin; four children, Mark (Nancy) Colvin, Annette Range, Eric (Kristi) Colvin and Richard (Georgia) Colvin; 12 grandchildren, Brett (Lacey) Colvin, Matt (Amanda) Colvin, Sommer (Andrew) Divine, Chelsea (Wes) Litton, Cameron (Courtney) Range, Sara Massie, Claire (Aaron) Finkel, Kelsey (Ben) Grimm, Taylor Colvin, Ashton (Ty) Stinson, Keyanna Colvin and Owen Colvin; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Gentry was preceded in death by three children, Jeffrey, Karla, and Neil Colvin; grandson, Andrew Colvin; and his three sisters, Kathleen Fehling, Mary Dell Craig and Nancy Suttner.
Visitation for Mr. Colvin will be 9:30-11 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 AM at the funeral home, with Rev. Roger McMurry officiating. Interment will be held at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.
