Gus Lewis 1936 - 2016 Armstrong resident, Gus Lewis, passed away at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, MO on February 21, 2016. He was 79 years of age. Norris Wayne "Gus" Lewis was born on December 27, 1936 in Glasgow, MO to Harry and Pansy (Bentley) Lewis, Sr. He graduated from Glasgow High School in 1954. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957. He married Virginia "Ginny" Jackson November 19, 1966. Gus worked as a truck driver most of his life and later raised cattle and horses after retirement. Gus was a member of the Glasgow Methodist Church and he was also a former Commander of the Glasgow American Legion Post 211. In his spare time he enjoyed visiting with family and friends sharing stories of past experiences. He will truly be missed by all that knew him. Gus is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Mike) Raymore of Fayette and Debbie (Greg) Purdum of Louisiana, MO; one son, Randy (Cindy) Lewis of Harrisburg; brother, Harry "Bunk" (Margie) Lewis of Glasgow; sister, Virginia (Wilbur) Hackley of Armstrong; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; uncle, William Henry Lewis of Glasgow; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Aside from his parents and wife, Gus was preceded in death by a son, Charles Campbell; daughter, Cynthia Graves; granddaughter, Kelly Raymore; three brothers, Edwin, John and James; two sisters, Rae Jean Zubeck and Dorothy St. Cyr. Services for Mr. Lewis are 11 AM, Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, February 24 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home and also an hour before the service Thursday morning. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Armstrong. Memorial contributions are suggested to Walnut Hill Cemetery or The Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service.
