Longtime rural Glasgow, MO resident, Hazel Engel, passed away at the age of 100 years, 6 months on September 28, 2024 at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, MO.

Hazel Freda Mary Engel was born on the family farm on March 16, 1924, a daughter to the late Henry and Emily (Speiser) Lyons.  Hazel attended Glasgow High School and later earned her GED.  On June 2, 1940, Hazel married the love of her life, Melvin J. Engel at Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green, MO.  The couple enjoyed over 45 years of marriage.  Melvin preceded Hazel in death on December 3, 1985.  Hazel primarily worked as a seamstress in the textile manufacturing industry, working for Builtwell Manufacturing for many years.  Hazel worked for Show Me Tours as a tour guide, where she was able to tour and travel the world.  She also held jobs as a secretary for Amalgamated Insurance, local legal Legislative Representative for her local Amalgamated, and as a Direct Distributor for Amway.  Hazel was a very devoted and active member of Salem Lutheran Church.  She helped and served her church in numerous capacities and was a member of the Ladies Evening Group and Thrivent. 

Survivors include her three sons, Floyd (Mary Jo) Engel of Independence, MO, Clyde (Sandy) Engel of Columbia, MO and Dallas (Debbie) Engel of Gallatin, MO; five grandchildren, John (Trisha) Engel, Shelley (Corey) Finnell, Paula (Ron) Hayes, Dallas L. (Katheryn) Engel and Danny (Katherine) Engel; 5 -grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Arthur Lyons of Kingsville, MO, Richard (Barbara) Lyons of Oak Grove, MO and Ora Mae Monnig of Blue Springs, MO.  In addition to her husband and parents, Hazel was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jason and Bradford, a-great great-granddaughter, Claire, and two brothers, Orville and Eldon Lyons.

A funeral service honoring the life of Hazel Engel will be 11 AM, Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green, MO, with Pastor Noah Burgdorf officiating.  Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church starting at 10 AM.  Interment will follow the service at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
