Helen Heying Obituary
Glasgow resident, Helen Mae Heying, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Glasgow, Missouri, on September 10, 2024, after a short battle with cystitis. Helen M. Heying was born in Lecoma, Missouri on July 22, 1928. She was a daughter to the late William and Catherine (Ponzer) Horn.
Helen attended a one room school house located a short distance from the family farm where she along with her brother and sisters would walk to and from daily, yes even in the snow.
She married the love of her life, Lewis Martin Heying at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rolla, Missouri on May 10th, 1949. After two children and 65 years of marriage, Lewis preceded her in death on December 25, 2014.
Helen was strong willed, but she had an enormous heart and wonderful smile. She was generous, loyal, and brave. Between raising her two children and spending time with her beloved grandchildren, she had a short career as lunch room cook at St. Joseph’s School in Jefferson City, Missouri.
She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with her friends and family. She truly loved each of them- and if you knew her, you knew it. Helen had a way with flowers and a sense of landscaping her yard. Beautiful flowers would always catch the eye of those who drove by her house.
She will be missed dearly.
Survivors include her son, Michael L. Heying of Glasgow, Mo.; a son-in-law, Norman Haskamp of Glasgow, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ben Haskamp and wife Missy of Lee Summit, Mo., Megan Haskamp of Fayette, Mo., Spencer Haskamp and wife Misty of Columbia, Mo., Jill (Haskamp) Schmidlin and husband Dan of Fayette, Mo.; and seven great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Amelia, Logan, Malori, Aiden, Ellie and Beckham; three siblings, Charles Horn of Lecoma, Mo., Ina (Horn) Schwartz of Bethesda, Md., and Irene (Horn) Calton of Florissant, Mo.
In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ann (Heying) Haskamp of Glasgow, Mo., and siblings, Lena (Horn) Whitson of Rolla, Mo., and Ella (Horn) Smith of Lecoma, Mo.
