On October 18, Helen Johanning, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home in Glasgow, Missouri.
Helen C. Johanning was born August 29, 1942, in Chariton County, Missouri, to Joseph and Angeline (Henke) Hartmann. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Salisbury. On May 15, 1965, Helen married the love of her life, Robert Joseph Johanning at St. Joseph Church in Salisbury.
Helen spent much of her life in the banking industry. She began her career at Salisbury Savings Bank and later worked at Merchants and Farmers Bank. Helen spent 35 years serving the Glasgow community at Tri-County Trust Company. She and her co-workers shared a special bond and were like family.
Wisdom, faith and devotion defined Helen. She loyally served her family, church and community. Helen brought joy and comfort to those around her and many benefited from her extraordinary baking and gardening talents. She lived by example, actively practicing her Catholic faith, attending mass and performing many charitable works. She will be deeply missed by her loving family, friends, and fellow St. Mary’s parishioners.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert “Bobby” Johanning of Glasgow; four children, Gina Johanning of Columbia, MO, Dana (Mark) Flaspohler of Hartsburg, MO, Patrick (Stephanie) Johanning and Philip Johanning, of Glasgow; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Sister Lucile Hartmann, OSB, Richard (Carlene) Hartmann, George Hartmann, Lawrence (Sharon) Hartmann, Charles (Paula) Hartmann, Steve (Rita) Hartmann, Donald (Lucy) Hartmann and Carole Brien. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by three siblings, Agnes (Bernard) Schreiner, John Hartmann and Cecilia Thyer.
All services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The rosary will begin at 8:30 a.m., at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services at Washington Cemetery.
