Jan Wilson Obituary

On the morning of March 22, 2026, Janet Elsie Wilson died at the age of 89 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she died surrounded by her family in Virginia Beach VA.

Janet was born in St. Louis, MO to Walter and Helen (Yeargin) Beiter in 1936.  Janet was the oldest of 3 children, her brother Walter (Marilyn) Beiter of Chesterfield MO, and sister Joan (Dave) Anzalone of Godfrey, IL.   She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Wilson. They were wed on June 13, 1959, and together raised five children.

They lived and raised a family in the following communities across the United States, St. Louis MO Havelock NC, New Haven MO, Glasgow MO and Folkston GA.   Jan returned to Glasgow after the death of her husband before entering a memory care center in Virginia Beach.

Jan grew up on Bellefontaine Rd in St. Louis and attended Twillman Elementary School and Riverview High School graduating in 1954.  After High School, she attended Miss Hickey’s School for Secretaries in St. Louis, where she graduated with an amazing array of secretarial skills.  As a young woman, she was employed by several businesses in downtown St. Louis.   She had a beautiful Soprano voice and enjoyed singing throughout her life.   In her early years, she sang in the choir for the local Bellefontaine Missouri Methodist church.  She was recorded on vinyl and sang semi-professionally for weddings and other events throughout St. Louis.   After helping put her husband through St. Louis University, she concentrated on raising her children and building her family.  After moving to North Carolina, the responsibility for raising her family fell to her during Bill’s two extended deployments with the Marine Corps in Vietnam and the Philippines. In the early 1970’s, the family moved back to Missouri, living in Florissant and New Haven before settling in Glasgow. When the children completed schooling, Jan and Bill moved south to Folkston, GA.  Following Bill’s passing Janet moved back to Glasgow.  Throughout the years and family moves, Janet truly lived life to the fullest through activities in the community and the Catholic Church.  She enjoyed singing at Mass and supported her husband’s duties as a Deacon.

She is survived by five children all born in St. Louis MO: William (Pam) Wilson of Virginia Beach VA, Margaret (Keith) Aholt of Arlington TX, Thomas (Anne Marie) Wilson of Dyersburg TN, Stephen (Karen) of Cataula GA and Sandra (Brad) Monnig of Glasgow MO.   Thirteen Grandchildren: Teresa (Wilson) Johnson, Katherine (Wilson) Newcomb and Rachel (Wilson) Corpuz, all of Virginia Beach VA.  Joseph Aholt of Arlington TX, Stephanie (Aholt) Biblewski, of Arlington TX, Christopher (Aholt) of Newcastle WA, Candace (Aholt) Murphy of Arlington TX, Amanda (Wilson) Levy of Summerset SD, Caden Wilson of Mosel MS, Zackery Wilson of Dyersburg TN, Margaret Wilson of Searcy AR, Neil Monnig of Columbia MO and Jacob Monnig of Glasgow MO.  She is also survived by Seventeen Great Grand Children: Brooklyn Aholt, Sophia Mitchell, Abigail Corpuz, Grace Johnson, William (Billy) Corpuz, Mary Rose Johnson, Clark Monnig, Michael Johnson, Christopher Corpuz, Jackson Newcomb, Raeley Monnig, Keir Biblewski, Hazel Biblewski, Rylan Aholt, Colt Murphy, Sadie Mae Murphy, and Charlotte Levy.
