Glasgow resident, Jimmie Duren passed away December 27, 2023 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO. He was 89 years of age.
Jimmie Hawkins Duren was born July 15, 1934 in Glasgow, MO, a son to the late Robert Cooper and Ida P. (Spires) Duren. He attended and graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1952. On May 29, 1953, Jimmie married Shirley Lynch. The couple enjoyed 33 years together and shared two children, Janet and Darrell. Shirley preceded him in death on May 25, 1986. On December 4, 1987, Jim married the second love of his life, Delores Widhalm, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glasgow. Earlier this month, Jim and Delores celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. Jimmie began his professional career working as an electrician. He was employed with Armco Steel in Kansas City, MO for 30 years, retiring September 1, 1986. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union while in Kansas City. When Jimmie moved to Glasgow, he was an active member of Richland Christian Church, south of Glasgow. He was also active and involved with the Glasgow Senior Center, delivering meals and serving on the board for several years. Jimmie never met a stranger and always enjoyed social gatherings, talking and visiting with friends and relatives.
Survivors include his wife, Delores, of the home; two children, Janet (Jim) Werner of Blue Springs, MO and Darrell (Kathy) Duren of Independence, MO; two step-children, Theresa (Tim) Gossett of Waxahachie, TX and Michael McHugh of Brunswick, MO; sister, Barbara Heisel of Brunswick, MO; 14 grandchildren: Amber (Greg) Barnett, Justin (Crystyl) Werner, April (Marcus) Kelcher, Andrea Duren, Alicia (Craig) Zeiger, Kimberly, Jordan and Austin Gossett, and Philip and Paige McHugh; 11 great-grandchildren: Koen, Crosby, Hudson, Hattie, Elijah, Noah, Kennedy, Bria, Ayla, Alivia and Alexandra. In addition to his parents and first spouse, Jimmie was preceded in death by five brothers, Keith, Robert, Bernard, Billy Joe, Floyd, and two sisters, Janice Warford and Martha Monnig.
Visitation for Jimmie Duren will be 9:30-11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Richland Christian Church, south of Glasgow. Funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 11 AM at the church, with Rev. Sandra Enyard officiating. Interment with graveside committal will be 11 AM, Wednesday January 3, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
