Glasgow resident, Joyce Hunter, 73, passed away suddenly at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO on June 16, 2026.


Joyce Elaine Hunter was born January 17, 1953 in Lubbock, TX.  She was one of five children born to the late, Charles C. and Phyllis A. (Haskamp) Painter.  Joyce attended and graduated from Mira Loma High School with the class of 1970.  She furthered her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Sacramento State University. 


Joyce worked in the insurance industry for most of her career for various companies as a technical writer/system analyst.  She enjoyed time spent with her loving husband of 52 years, Raymond Hunter.  He preceded her in death December 26, 2024.  She had a compassion and love for animals, especially her pet cats and dogs.  She and her husband, Ray, also had a love for Dixieland music.


Joyce came from a military family.  Her father, Charles, spent nearly 30 years in The Army Air Corp/Air Force; her mother, Phyllis was a W.A.C. in World War Two; her brother, John, was in the U.S. Air Force; and her brother, Charles, was in the U.S. Navy.


During her lifetime, Joyce resided in Lubbock, Texas; Tripoli, Libya; Ankara, Turkey; Rantoul, Illinois; St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada; Battle Creek, Michigan; North Highlands/Sacramento/Roseville, California; Tucson, Arizona; and Glasgow, Missouri.


Survivors include her three siblings, Carol Painter of St. Louis, MO; Robin Hardie of Glasgow, MO; and Charles W. Painter of Houston, TX.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Painter, who passed away in 1974.


There are also several nieces and nephews that survive: Johnna Brock; Jeremy Hardie; Matthew Painter; Travis Painter; Shelley Painter; Chad White, who proceed her in death; Dyana White; and Kathy Hardie, who preceded her in death. There are also grandnieces and grandnephews: Brianna Fredricks; Brian Walker; Taylor Brock; Evelyn Hardie; and Riley Painter.


A celebration honoring the life of Joyce Hunter will be held privately and at a later date.
