Columbia, MO resident, Judith Stapleton Fraas, age 84, passed away at her home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family on June 27, 2023.
Judith Ann Stapleton was born December 21, 1938 in Detroit, MI to the late William J. and H. Maude (Cole) Stapleton. Judy graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College in 1960, earning a degree in Sociology. On June 10, 1961, Judy married the love of her life, Charles J. Fraas, Jr. in Kansas City, MO. Together, the couple enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Following a long and successful career, Judy retired from the MO Department of Health and Human Services as a Senior Research Analyst. In her spare time, Judy enjoyed playing bridge and was a voracious reader. She also enjoyed traveling with Charlie.
Survivors include her husband of the home, Charles J. Fraas, Jr.; four children, Martin (Christine) Fraas of Shorewood, IL; Julia Fraas of Chicago, IL; Sheila (Steve) Ferguson of Glasgow, MO; and Matthew (Anya) Fraas of Newport News, VA; one brother, James (Darlene) Stapleton of Emmett, MI; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and numerous family and friends. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by a sister, Maureen Stapleton Flores.
Following Judy’s final wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and Columbarium in Emmett, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, 801 South 8th Street, Atchison, KS 66002.
