Harrisburg, MO resident, Kevin Nichols, age 56, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia on June 20, 2025.

Kevin Leo Nichols was born January 4, 1969 in Fayette, MO.  He was one of four boys born to the late Darrel Wayne and Cecil Mae (Vernold) Nichols.  Kevin attended Harrisburg Schools.  He graduated from Hickman High School with the class of 1987, after his family moved to the Millersburg area.  Kevin held several jobs after graduating doing factory and auto body work.  He then started what would be a 30 plus year career in public works.  Kevin worked for the street department for the city of Columbia, starting out in waste disposal.  He then moved to heavy equipment operator and eventually retired as a supervisor in 2020.  It wasn’t long and Kevin came out of retirement.  For the past five years he was working with construction supply company, White Cap.  In September of 1998, he married Maggie Kite and the couple have enjoyed over 27 years together.  When he wasn’t working, Kevin enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing and taking rides in his side by side.  He liked mudding and competing in turkey shoots.  Kevin smoked and barbequed meat, preparing meals for numerous events and weddings, often not charging for his services.  On top of everything, Kevin loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie Nichols, of the home; three children, Sarah (Robbie) Eisele, Scott Nichols and Austin Nichols, all of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Arya, Declan and Evelyn; three brothers, Keith (Kyla) Nichols of Houston, TX, Kerry (Cheryl) Nichols and Kurt (Debbie) Nichols, both of Harrisburg.

Funeral Service will be 11 AM, Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Harrisburg Christian Church, with Rev. John Gillman officiating.  Visitation will be held an hour and a half prior to the service, starting at 9:30 AM at the church.  Burial will follow the services at Harrisburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Nichols Family to help with hospital and medical expenses.  Final arrangements are under the direction of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service of Fayette, MO.
