Glasgow resident, Lavena Kallmeyer, age 100, passed away at Glasgow Gardens on September 28, 2023.
Lavena Katherine Kallmeyer, affectionately known as “Nanny” to family and friends, was born in Saline County, MO on October 19, 1922. She was one of two children born to the late Joseph and Virginia (Johnson) Thornton. Lavena graduated from Slater High School with the class of 1940. On January 12, 1946, Lavena married Eugene A. “Gene” Kallmeyer in Glasgow, MO. They enjoyed over 41 years of marriage together. Gene passed away suddenly on September 27, 1987. Lavena started her career working for Slater Garage and Insurance Company. After moving to Glasgow, she began working in the banking industry as a teller. She worked for Regional Missouri Bank (formerly Glasgow Savings Bank) and finished her career at Tri-County Trust Company. When she was able, Lavena loved to go dancing. She was an avid card player and enjoyed many trips to the boat. Lavena was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered her time at the Glasgow Senior Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Theresa (Doug) Walker of Glasgow; daughter-in-law, Elouise Kallmeyer of Glasgow; six grandchildren, Amy Kallmeyer, Joe (Kelly) Kallmeyer, Andy (Lindsay) Kallmeyer, Emily (Andy) Bentley, Melanie (Jonathan) Fitzgerald, and Weston (Jason) Walker; eight great-grandchildren, Leo, Baylee, Ben, Eva, Rylee, Hudson, Silas, and Lennox; and three great-great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Dreah, and Jasper. In addition to her husband and parents, Lavena was preceded in death by her son, David Kallmeyer, and her brother, Archie Thornton.
A funeral service will be held 1 PM, Monday, October 2, 2023 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at noon. Interment will follow the service at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.
