Lucille Vose, age 98, passed away January 23, 2023, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Lucille (Wolf) Vose was born in Custer County, NE on March 7, 1924, the third child of Thomas C. and Mary A. (Parolek) Wolf. Lucille graduated from High School in Milburn, NE with the class of 1942. On January 26, 1944, Lucille married her high school sweetheart, Glen Owen Vose, who she knew since she was 12 years old. The couple enjoyed 65 years of marriage until Glen’s passing in 2009. Under this union, Mr. and Mrs. Vose had 12 children (seven girls and five boys). Lucille and Glen resided in three states: Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. The couple and their young family lived and farmed in Nebraska and Kansas before moving to Grain Valley, Missouri in the mid-fifties. In 1971 Lucille came to Glasgow, Missouri with her husband and children. When Lucille married Glen, she took on the role of farmer’s wife. She drove their first tractor, but that didn’t last long, after she plowed down a fence row. Lucille then took on the role of mechanic, helping Glen repair anything around the farm. Most importantly, Lucille took on the role of homemaker and caregiver to her 12 children, whom she adored.
Lucille was a devout Catholic. She attended Mass regularly, took part in many roles and served in numerous capacities at each parish she belonged to. She was a member of the CCW, Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary, and St. Mary Parents and Teachers Association, where she served on the board and was chairperson for three years. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and visited many of the homebound, throughout the years. Lucille also volunteered her time with the public schools. She served and volunteered time with civic duties. Lucille co-chaired the renovation of the old city hall building in Glasgow. She also spent time at the Senior Center in Glasgow, hosting many gatherings and parties. She spent many hours cooking, canning, sewing, wallpapering, and painting in the family home. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling. After Glenn’s death she traveled to Canada and Alaska in 2011. In 2013, at the age of 88, she and her daughter, Marcile took an eleven-day tour of Italy.
Lucille outlived most of her friends, her siblings, and her in-laws. The Vose’s and Wolf’s stayed remarkably close and shared many great times laughing and working together. As they got older, both families continued to share many reunions together. Lucille has several nieces and nephews who have much love and respect for her. She will be remembered by her children for her devotion to God and how she got them to attend Mass every Sunday, and on Holy Days. With grace, Lucille dealt with the many challenges of raising such a large family, and even losing two of her children at an early age. Lucille persevered and was a strong mother figure for her family. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit and legacy lives on through her surviving family.
Lucille was very proud of her son, grandsons, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, and great-grandsons who are serving now, or have served in the past in the U.S. military. Ten in all.
