Fayette, MO resident, Mildred Brand, age 95, died at her home on October 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Mildred Louise Brand was born in Aholt, Chariton Co., MO on October 4, 1928. She was one of ten children born to the late Steve H. and Anna (Niekamp) Schaefer, Sr. Mildred attended grade school at Aholt and at the young age of 13, she moved to Carrollton, MO to help Herb and Martha Locke with their family. Mildred also held jobs in St. Charles and Boonville, MO. On September 3, 1949, Mildred married Linus Benjamin Brand. Under this union the couple had six children together. Linus preceded her in death on October 30, 1978. Following her marriage, Mildred stayed busy, tending to the daily jobs of the home, and raising her children. She will be remembered for her excellent cooking and the numerous quilts she has made over the years. Mildred was a longtime and devout member of St. Mary Parish in Glasgow, where she contributed and served in various capacities. She was wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, and will be deeply missed.
Survivors includer her six children: Charlotte Ann (Stevie) Frevert of Glasgow, MO, Michael Linus (Sandy) Brand of Fayette, MO, David Eugene (Donna) Brand of Glasgow, MO, Mary Ann (Mitch) Strodtman of Glasgow, MO, Marion William “Butch” (Gwen) Brand of Glasgow, MO and Samuel Stephen (Stephanie) Brand of Glasgow, MO. 15 grandchildren: Shawn (Mellissa) Frevert, Jennifer (Michael) Barringhaus, Tim (Amanda) Brand, Lee Ann (David) Lawson, Nichole Brandt, Megan Brand, Jessica (Matthew) Elson, Clay Strodtman, Callie (Chad) Westhues, Karla (Steven) Morrow, Kristina (Heath) Meyer, Ben Brand, Madelyne (Nathan) Sanders, Landon (Savannah) Brand and Preston Brand. 31 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Carrington, Carson and Campbell Frevert; Kialey, Nalaeha and Leena Ray; Addison, Jonah, Jillian, and Charleigh Barringhaus; Joseph Woodruff, Miles and Abigail Elson; Gavin, Brady, Harper and Avery Lawson; Cash, Emma, Cole and Grey Westhues; Stella and Nova Morrow; Levi and Kade Meyer; Eleese and Tristan Brand; Eliza and Libby Sanders; and Forrest Brand. Two great-great-grandchildren, Elias Howell & Silas Woodruff. Mildred is also survived by a sister, Stella Niemier of Belton, MO; two sisters-in-law, Nina Belle Schaefer and Sheryl Schaefer, both of Glasgow, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mildred was preceded in death by five brothers, Ervin “Bud” Schaefer, twin Melvin, James, Steve Jr., and Jerome; three sisters, Nadine Monnig, Jenny Rose Monnig and Angeline Noth. Also preceding her in death are three great-grandchildren, Kathryn Regina Brand, Phillip Michael Woodruff and Carrie Lynn Brand.
Visitation will be 4-6 PM, Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Rosary will be held prior to the visitation starting at 3:30 PM at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Monday, October 16, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow, with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating. Interment will follow the service at Washington Cemetery.
