Former Howard County, MO resident and educator, Mona Fisher-Nichols, age 72, passed away February 7, 2025 in Kissimmee, FL.
Mona Gail Fisher was born September 28, 1952 in Fayette, MO, a daughter to the late George Lee and Katherine Lavece (Davis) Fisher. Mona graduated from Fayette High School with the class of 1970. She furthered her education earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri. Mona spent her professional career in education teaching English and Spanish. She taught for Fayette and Boonville High Schools. She later taught English and Spanish at Central Methodist University in Fayette. Mona was active in the Golden Study Club and served as a docent for the Ashby Hodge Gallery of American Art. Following retirement, Mona moved to Florida where she spent the last three years of her life. Mona enjoyed walking, reading, gardening, animals and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her life-long partner, Dan Nichols, of Kissimmee, FL; daughter, Kara (Ree) Wilkinson of Kissimmee, FL; two siblings, Monica Fisher of Columbia, MO and Mark (Shari) Fisher of Fayette, MO; four nieces, one nephew, 15 great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece. Mona was preceded in death by her parents, George and K. Lavece Fisher.
A memorial service honoring the life of Mona Fisher will be held 11 AM, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. Mike Jackman officiating.
