Rural Pilot Grove, MO resident, Norma Johnson, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on June 16, 2026.

Norma (Garrett) Johnson was born September 14, 1939 in Callaway County, MO.  She was one of two children born to the late John “Jack” Anthony and Jewell (Benson) Garrett.  Norma attended and graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1957.  She also attended William Woods University.  On September 16, 1961, Norma married Herbert Richard Johnson in Fulton, MO.  The couple enjoyed over 54 years of marriage.  Herbert preceded her in death February 16, 2016.

Norma started early on in her career in the health care industry as an administrative assistant.  She had a strong work ethic and worked her way up into Risk Management and Quality Control for Columbia Regional Hospital and The University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics.  She worked in healthcare administration for numerous years, retiring in 2006.

When she wasn’t working, Norma was active in the Hannah Cole Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  She held several roles and titles, including Chapter Regent, District Director and Curator of Roslyn Heights, which is the state headquarters.  Norma was also an active member of the Boone Society.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Dean) Wilkerson, of Pilot Grove, MO; three grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Wilkerson, Emma Johnson and Tessa (Jason) Sweet; four great-grandchildren, Gabby Bowen, Sara Wilkerson, Becca Wilkerson and Norah Sweet.  In addition to her husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Deuel, a son, Cliff Johnson, and an infant sister.

A memorial service honoring the life of Norma Johnson will be 11 AM, Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, MO.  Visitation will be an hour before the service starting at 10 AM.  A private inurnment will take place at a later date, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette, MO.
