Fayette resident, Sara Jane Murtagh died April 4, 2014 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. She was 91 years of age. She was born August 13, 1922 to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Strackbein of Lowden, Iowa. On July 24, 1949, she married Joseph G. Murtagh of San Francisco, CA. He preceded her in death October 15, 1995. A memorial service will be at 3 PM, Saturday, April 12, at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church in Fayette. Sara graduated from Lowden High School and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. She then taught high school and adult education in California. After moving to Chicago, she taught at the University of Chicago Laboratory School. For the last 49 years, she has lived in Fayette, where her husband taught at Central Methodist University. She was a member of the Book Club, P.E.O., All Year Round Club, Linn Lydia Circle, R.D. Bridge Club and Linn United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Charles of Bozeman, MT; daughter, Catherine of San Francisco, CA; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Amelia. A committal graveside service will be 5 PM, Sunday, April 13, at Lowden Cemetery in Lowden, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to P.A.W.'s.
