Sheila Sellmeyer, passed away peacefully, June 25, 2026, at Glasgow Gardens. She was 95 years of age.
Sheila Rachel Sellmeyer was born April 16, 1931 in Wien, Chariton County, MO. She was the youngest of five children born to the late August and Mary (Kiefer) Palms. Sheila attended and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Salisbury. She proudly graduated a year ahead of schedule and was valedictorian of her class. On September 2, 1950, Sheila married the love of her life, Herbert Mark “Herb” Sellmeyer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury. Together the couple enjoyed over 70 years of marriage. Herb preceded Sheila in death July 18, 2021.
As a homemaker and farmer’s wife, Sheila worked tirelessly tending to all things around the home. She was a voracious reader, always found with a new book in hand. Above all, she cherished her family. She created a home filled with warmth, kindness, and unconditional love. Her wisdom, patience, and generous heart will be remembered by all who knew her.
Sheila was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary Parish in Glasgow. She was a member of the Study Club. Sheila loved flowers and enjoyed working in her flower beds. She loved spending time with her friends, playing cards. Herb and Sheila also enjoyed playing cards with other couples.
Survivors include three children, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Sellmeyer of McAlester, OK, Gregory (Tammy) Sellmeyer of Fulton, MO and Kristin (Greg) Speiser of Glasgow, MO; daughter-in-law, Debbie Sellmeyer; eight grandchildren, Stephen Sellmeyer, Jennifer Unger, Tyler Sellmeyer, Andrea Lynch, Lucas Sellmeyer, Megan Sellmeyer, Austin Speiser and Allissa Speiser; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Sheila was preceded in death by a son, Mark Sellmeyer, and four brothers, Bernard, Armund, Owen and Maurice Palms.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM, Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Glasgow. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church, starting at 10 AM. Interment will follow services at Washington Cemetery.
