Wanda Neville Obituary

Glasgow, MO resident, Wanda Neville, age 86, passed away peacefully at Glasgow Gardens on April 3, 2025.

Wanda Fay Neville was born February 7, 1939 in Kirksville, MO.  She was a daughter to the late Willard W. and Emma Elizabeth (Littleton) Symes.  On September 20, 1960, Wanda married Lawrence Edward “Larry” Neville at St. Mary Church in Glasgow.  The couple enjoyed nearly 28 years of marriage and under this union shared three children.  Larry preceded her in death on August 30, 1988.  Wanda spent a long and dedicated career working for the Glasgow School District.  She worked as a bus driver and a custodian for 50 plus years for Glasgow Schools.  In her spare time, she enjoyed doing embroidery work.  She also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Glasgow Food Pantry.

Wanda loved going to bingo with her friends Genny Meyer, Mary Rook, and Leroy and Ester Sanders.  She loved spending time with her family and telling stories of her younger days.  Wanda was the adopted mom to generations of kids here in Glasgow from the many years that she drove the bus and worked for the school district.  She was quick to stick up for those who couldn’t do it themselves and was not afraid to tell you if she disagreed with you.  She was known by many names to the kids who knew and loved her, such as Momma Wanda, Wild Wanda, Wicked Wanda, and Grandma Wanda (as the next generation came to know and love her) names she was very proud of and wore with a badge of honor.  She always said that if she would have had the money and a large house, she would have loved to have taken in every child that needed a loving home.  It didn’t seem to matter what she was doing she could always come out of it with a good story.  When Wanda wasn’t working, or going to bingo she enjoyed making embroidered t-towels and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She loved sitting on her patio and visiting with her neighbors Marilyn and Kirk, and Earl and Laura.  She would watch the traffic go by and loved it when someone would honk and wave or stop by for a short visit.

Survivors include her three children, Laurie (Steve) Himmelberg of Columbia MO, Mark (Tracy) Neville and Larry (Christy) Neville of Glasgow, MO; 10 grandchildren: Ashley Daviess, Aaron Himmelberg, Kyle Himmelberg, Kelli Beck, Zachery Neville, Blake Neville, Khloe Neville, Kayla Nation, Courtney Neville, Kasey Neville; six great-grandchildren: Kaden Davies, Zack Daviess, Nate Daviess, Kinsley Nation, Harper Nation, Noah Neville; and two great-great-grandchildren, Wolf Daviess and Rome Daviess.  She is also survived by her sister Martha (Bill) Skinner, brother, Fred Symes, and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, Wanda was proceeded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Melvin Symes.

A funeral service honoring the life of Wanda Neville will be 10 AM, Monday, April 7, 2025 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, with Rev. Sandra Enyard officiating.  Visitation will be the evening before from 5-7 PM, Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the service at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Glasgow Food Pantry, c/o Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 112 Market St., Glasgow, MO 65254.
